Having gotten myself back into painting, I find myself looking at my surroundings with an eye for the color make-up of objects. For me this isn't that much of a change in perception, as I've spent the last 11+ years looking at the world through the filter of 3d material properties (Diffuse, Gloss/Specularity, Reflection, Etc). I had forgotten how different creating with a computer is vs. real pigment.
I also forgot how much I love the act of creating a physical, completely unique, image. I still love using the computer, but I find it far more suited to slicker imagery, and I've always found there to be something lacking where the expressiveness of the process is concerned. That tactile, relief quality that exists in a completed painting where expression and intent can be found in the brush strokes.
Then again, I could just be crazy (I'd say "Losing my mind", but that went a good 20 years ago...)
